There’s a gorgeous little cafe not far from us that has the most amazing cacao and date smoothie on the menu. Mr nearly three and I can’t help ourselves. We can’t talk as we sip down our smoothies watching the waves crash on the shore. Hubby just laughs at us.
Afterwards, we play chasey on the sand… And giggle.
So what do you do?
We do what we do best. We come home and recreate our very own.
Trust me, you’ll love it! It’s a favourite in our house.
Sare’s Choco-Coco Smoothie
1 1/2 frozen bananas
2-3 medjool dates (de-pipped)
1 heaped tbsp cacao powder
1 heaped tbsp protein powder
2 heaped tbsp coconut yoghurt OR 1/3 cup 100% pure coconut cream and 1/2 tsp probiotic powder
1 tsp chia seed
1/2 tsp bee pollen
1/2 tsp gubinge powder (natural source of vitamin c)
There’s something to be said for those moments we shared as kids over milkshakes. The cold silver cups filled to the brim with a gorgeous frothy milkshake that always disappeared too quickly. Way too quickly… Chocolate, Strawberry, Vanilla, Lime and Caramel. Fanta spiders. Creaming soda spiders…. Roller-skates were our mode of transport. We sat at milk bars for hours. We made friends. We laughed. We loved.
Memories were made.
Fast forward (err….cough!) 30+ years and we are sitting in my kitchen. Mr nearly three hanging with me. His love of smoothies is pretty cute. The mention of one sends him in a happy dance across the kitchen floor, high-fiving the world. I’m not quite sure when I let him in on a little secret… That it’s healthy. We sit and laugh. And love. And drink supergreen smoothies in glass jars with stainless steel straws. A little hipster you say. Not really. We are just being kind to ourselves and to the earth.
What does it matter if it’s healthy? Maybe I won’t ever tell him. What would it achieve…?Memories are being made. Good ones. And there’s not one single grain of refined sugar in sight.
That’s our little secret!

I have recently discovered Kale. This superfood is amazing!!
Kale contains amazing levels of Vitamin A, Vitamin B9 (folate), Vitamin K, alpha-lipoic acid and lutein. Therefore, it’s an important food in the fight against stroke, obesity, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer and depression. It fights infections and regulates blood clotting. In fact, research conducted by the Angiogenesis Foundation in Massachusetts suggests that kale may be effective in blocking angiogenesis, making it much harder for cancer cells to grow and multiply in the body.
Therefore, why wouldn’t we all include kale in our daily diets!!!
Here are two recipes for a breakfast smoothie that are just divine!!
Blueberry Banana Punch
A handful of frozen blueberries
Half an apple
A small handful of kale
200mls of biodynamic apple juice
Teaspoon of chia seeds
Whizz in blender.
A decent handful of Kale
1 cheek of frozen organic mango
200ml of biodynamic apple juice (if you can’t find, the Nudie nothing but apples is good)
dash of coconut water water (100mls ish)
squeeze of lemon (this releases maximum iron from the kale)
